About Mack

Did someone say 'ball'? Where?! Oh hi there, my name is Mack and I'm a 5.5 year old German Shepherd. I'm looking for the right person to give me the exercise I need and to continue the training that I've been receiving at Heartland. I'm a good student and have been excelling at leash work. I'm also getting experience running on leash, up to 5 miles! It's fun! I LOVE to play fetch and romp around the yard playing chase with my person. I can be wary of new people but you can buy my trust with a tennis ball or two. I need to go to a home that has German Shepherd experience, as we tend to be overprotective of our people. I think my job is to protect my space and my human from scary things, which may include other dogs and new people. I am working on my reactivity and I'm making great progress. I think we can all agree that the world can be a big scary place! With a bit of patience and training, I will make a great dog for a Shepherd savvy person! I would love to learn with you and I'm sure there's a lot we can teach each other. As a big, strong boy, I would appreciate being the only pet in the household. I would just love to have all your attention focused on me! Since I am working on my reactivity and manners, I will need to have multiple meetings with you to make sure I am the right fit for your home. My staff here know a lot about my needs, and they can help you learn a little more about me each time you visit. We will also set up a time to talk and meet with Heartland's behaviorist before taking me home so they can share all about the work we've been doing. To be the best boy I can be, I will need to continue working with a behaviorist in my new home. As with any dog, training is a lifelong commitment! However, I am a smart boy and a quick study! I may be a bit of work, but I promise you that if you're willing to put the time and care into me, we will be lifelong companions!
