About Mr. Russell

PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO! WE ARE LOOKING FOR A DIFFICULT DOG EXPERIENCED ADOPTER Mr. Russell needs a special committed forever home without children. He was found as a stray in Philadelphia, and didn't like the shelter environment one bit. It takes him awhile to warm up to new people and new surroundings. Mr. Russell is a fearful boy who acts out when he feels scared. We are hoping a family close to Lebanon, PA who would be able to visit Mr. Russell several times before taking him home since he takes a long time to trust. We have worked hard with socialization and he has made progress, but his family would need to continue working with him and building his confidence. He successfully completed puppy training and he would benefit from a group training class with his new owner to help form a bond. Mr. Russell would do best with another young playful dog as he relies on the other dogs to show him the way. If you want to give this beautiful boy the time he needs, he will be a goofy loyal addition. Mr. Russell is completely house trained, leash trained, and does well in the car for people he knows. He is only 2 to 4 years old and weighs 15 pounds. His ideal new family would allow him space and not expect him to accept human affection. While he does allow his foster mom a few head pets and then gives a growl to say that is enough, he doesn't enjoy human touch and we fear its due to trauma and abuse before coming into rescue. Mr. Russell really just wants a safe place to land, with a fenced yard, other playful dog(s), treats, and be given space. We don't know if he will ever fully allow human affection, and we know it's hard to resist since he is such a beautiful boy, but to avoid biting he just needs left alone and allow him to decide when he wants attention.
