About a week before Christmas, we had a stray show up in our fenced in back yard. Turns out she had dug her way in under the fence. After a few weeks of her hanging around and figuring out what it was to be an inside dog, we took her to the vet. We got her fully vacinated, started her on Panacur for parasites, antibiotics for an ear infection, and Nexgard for fleas and ticks. Unfortunately, her heartworm test was positive, but we deciced we would start the long process for treating them, so the vet put her on Heartgard for 2 months before we can start the rest of the treatment process. She was also in heat when she showed up, so there is a really high chance she is pregnant. That may be why my male dog was accepting of her initially, but the last 3-4 weeks, they have had multiple incidents of fighting, with myself and my husband getting injured breaking up the fights. Our dog (a Catahoula rescue -training still in progress) has shown aggresion to other dogs, so we aren't positive that she is the issue, but we also know that pregnant dogs can get aggressive with other dogs. We aren't sure what is causing the fighting, we just know this isn't working and are looking for a way to give her the life she deserves. We are managing by keeping them in seperate areas of the house, but we are in a constant state of stress and anxiety. Please, any help or advice for help would be greatly appreciated.
