About Dakota

Adoption Fee: $250
German Shepherd mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Can you say handsome?!?!? Dakota is so full of fun, quirky character! His all-time favorite belonging is a tennis ball. A ball is to Dakota as a blanket is to Linus (think Charlie Brown). He loves to have a ball by him always and will try to get you to play ball with him whenever he can. Even so, he is easily redirectable and will go lay in his bed on command and and get settled in. Dakota LOVES all people and children, too! He will bark at strangers coming up to the house but easily allows them to pet him and become his best friend. He wants all the pets and attention for himself, so his 'perfect' home is one where he can be your one and only. Other male dogs are a definite no-go for him. A submissive female may work if introduced properly and the owners are experienced owners whom are well-familiar with the German Shepherd breed. Dakota has some resource guarding of people (and his ball) with other dogs, so if there is another dog in the home, this is something his adoptive family would need to understand and be able to properly work with him on these behaviors. He previously lived with a ballsy 'take-no-prisoners' cat, so he may be okay with a cat under supervision. Dakota is house trained. He will actually 'ask' to go out to potty. Once he is done with his business, he is ready to come right back in and be with his people. He likes to just hang out with the family. He will sleep in his bed or on the couch all day with his people or waiting for his people to come home. He is completely house trained. He really prefers to be a home body kind of a pup. He gets a little anxious in new enviroments but does settle in as long as the humans are patient. Dakota wants to find a family that has a nice big 5ft fenced in yard for him to spend time running and relaxing and enjoying outside. He does not love being on a leash so a fenced yard is required for this beautiful boy. He is generally low energy and is pretty chill in the house and settles in nicely. He isn't crate trained yet and does have some kennel reactivity. Luckily, he does not require crating and is good in the house. Positive reinforcement will be helfpul with his new family. Someone committed to working on leash manners will help him build his skills. He is a 7 year old, 73lb. male German Shepherd. Isn't he a handsome guy? As part of Dakota's $250 adoption fee, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
