About Toby

Adoption Fee: $100
Siberian Husky
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

I am so sad to have to do this but please read below. Toby just turned 5 years old, weighs ~60lbs, and is a great cuddle bug and very intelligent. He knows sit, lay down, and we are working on stay. If you know anything about huskies you know they're a bit headstrong. I acquired Toby in November. He has been a great dog with the exception of some food aggression. I have had a standard dachshund for 9 years, and unfortunately Toby has bitten him a few times when challenged by the dachshund for food/toys, resulting in stitches. Yes I have taken the toys away while they're together but there has now been an instance in which I was in the other room and another bite was delivered, unsure why. This is 80% the dachshund's fault and only instinctual by Toby but the dachshund has been here longer and is weaker/helpless. I also injured my knee pretty badly and am unable to take Toby for runs anymore. He has nipped at me several times as well, though never drawing blood. I have worked with him extensively on not using his mouth, and he has gotten a lot better. (Making loud 'ouch' noises, and going limp, never beating him). The previous owner informed me that Toby was a stray for the first year of his life. This would make sense as to why he's food aggressive and uses his mouth to get his way. Toby does great at the dog park, on walks/runs, with my house guests, etc. But he does not do well with aggression from a smaller dog. He has not gotten out of my fence (4+ feet high all around). but he has darted out the front door a couple times. Resulting in an immediate game of chase. I invested in an Apple Airtag for his collar for tracking in the event he gets away and I don't see where he got off to. This will come with him for your sake (if you use an iPhone). The times he escaped I was able to collect him with a car ride. Toby needs a home with no small dogs. Preferably other huskies or big dogs, and definitely a good fence. He does great with my fathers boxer, friends labs, every dog at the park etc. Huskies require lots of attention and exercise. Please be aware of this. Toby will need 1-2 hours a day of real exercise. I either run him 2+ miles a day (pre knee injury) or take him to the dog park. Let me know if you're interested. I'd love to discuss whether you're a suitable match. I do have vet records, his toys, a harness, and some food to go with him. Please see this link for more photos: https://imgur.com/a/YUTzdwu
