Meet Barron!! Barron is a BIG BOY and he's got an interesting story. Please read his entire post carefully. If you're looking for a loyal dog then he's your guy! Barron is an approx 2 year old, male, German shepherd. He's a very big boy and already weighs 91 pounds. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is Heartworm negative. Barron was dumped off in the shelter for 'not being a good enough guard dog' His life was basically being left outside on a property to protect a hunt clubs hunting hounds. Well'| maybe Barron just wasn't happy there because he in fact has already proven he is a perfect protector. His first week in his foster home he chased a would be burglar from the yard. The intruder barely made it over the fence out of Barron's range. In the morning the foster learned that several houses on the street were burglarized, but not her house, thanks to Barron! So if you're willing to treat him right Barron will protect you and your home. Now, knowing that, you also need to understand that it's up to you to keep Barron from making any mistakes. If your home is one that random people walk in and out of then Barron is not the dog for you. With great power comes great responsibility. (Yes, I quoted Spider-Man '') He does great when you introduce him to new people but unexpected guests won't likely enjoy him Barron has been social and happy about meeting strangers in normal situations. He's done great with both foster homes and all members of the family to include kids. He's really a loving boy that wants to be with you all the time. Although he is big he is fairly easy to manage around the house. He listens fairly well and he's a big love bug. His crate training and potty training are perfect. He will only whine in the crate if he needs to go out and potty. He also does great in the car and loves going for rides. He was a favorite at the neuter clinic and didn't give them any trouble. He has a medium energy level. He needs time to explore the yard and play but he's not a high energy or hyper shepherd. Barron was also fostered with children over 8 and did really well. He is clumsy and goofy and will knock over small kids. He does also jump on people. It's a work in progress due to him having no previous training. Older kids would be the best for him just due to his size. His leash manners are getting better but he will pull a lot if he sees other dogs out on walks. You need to be strong enough to hold him if you plan to walk him. Good news is he's fine with just playing in the yard so walks are optional. Barron initially was showing signs of not being dog friendly. We've been letting him decompress and building up his confidence. He was showing improvement lately so we did a new dog test today and he did wonderful! No aggression, he was happy to play and chase each other all around the yard. They had a blast. This was another male we brought into his yard so we think he will do well with other dogs in general now that he's feeling more confident and safe. Cats he has learned to like but he's very overbearing with them. He licks them and bothers them. Barron has not had any aggression with people at all to include food or toys. He's great with people overall and is a very loyal companion. He is the sweetest boy and he's ready and waiting for the perfect family to spend the rest of his life with. He will only go to a home we feel will take both his protective qualities seriously. You have to be responsible for keeping him out of situations he is likely to fail in. Vet and home checks required. OTHER REQUIREMENTS 5 foot (or higher) fenced yard. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) 'IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING READ BELOW ' Please message us directly at [email protected] with questions or to get an application.
