About HUCKLEBERRY

Shar-Pei / Lab
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

WORLD, MEET HUCKLEBERRY! This adorable 10-year-old Shar-Pei mix (possibly mixed with lab) will surely melt your heart! Huck is looking for his forever home, but he also may soon need a new foster home, given a change in the foster mom's living situation. Huck is a dog with special needs, sort of. He came from California more than a year ago and was possibly a semi-feral dog, stuck out in a backyard with no chance for socializing. He has come out of his shell somewhat with his foster mom, who gives him lots of treats, love, and care. He has been in a long-term foster home with a large fenced yard and other dogs around him. Other dogs comfort him and he feels best when he is secure in his surroundings, so going forward, he will need a similar situation in order to flourish. Initially he was fearful of being approached and touched, though he's never been aggressive in response. But over time, he came to love his foster mom, accept treats and pets from her, and fall in love with his dog siblings. He shares his bed with the other dogs, follows them around the yard, and loves meal time! Every night, he sleeps in his bed in his foster mom's bedroom and loves to be surrounded by his furry family. Anytime his foster mom comes home, he jumps from excitement! Huck will likely never be a lap dog. But he is a companion who likes his space and learns to trust over time. He has a sweet disposition, and needs the right long-term foster or adopter to help him continue to make meaningful steps forward. He needs a person who will accept him for who he is while continuing to work with him, and a person who has a fenced yard, so walks won't be necessary (though certainly can become a goal). He also needs someone who has another dog or two that he can befriend - ideally mellow, easy-going who doesn't mind a shadow. He also needs someone who doesn't mind transporting him to the vet/groomer in a crate, and who can work with a vet since Huck must be sedated for most vet visits.%BD%A0 Huck also has an older elbow injury ins his left leg, so he walks with a bit of a wobble because of that. The surgery is too extensive for this stage of Huck's life, so he takes pain medication to help manage it. He still leads an active and happy life.%BD%A0 Can you open your home and heart to Huckleberry? Please email for an application.%BD%A0
