About Ripley

Doberman Pinscher
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Are you looking for a dog that looks like it will take down intruders but actually acts like a cat? Then believe it or not- Ripley is the guy for you! Ripley is an approximately 4 year old fawn Doberman that came into the rescue world because he didn't have the best start to life. He was a breeding dog in Louisiana, and when his breeder died he was sent to rescue. Unfortunately, Ripley did not come from a responsible or reputable breeder either. He lived outside in a pen by himself his entire life, and didn't have much in the way of shelter from the elements. He was also not on any kind of preventatives, so poor Rip had to go through heartworm treatment when he came up from the south. Ripley spent some time in a boarding facility until he was transferred to his very first foster home to decompress and wait for his forever family to find him. His foster home quickly found out that Ripley THRIVES when in the company of other dogs! Currently, Ripley lives in a home with another female Doberman and a male pitbull and loves both of them. Having another dog by his side seems to give him the confidence he needs to act like a normal dog. Although Ripley is doing amazing in his foster home, he hadn't lived in a real home before, and does get skittish with loud and unfamiliar noises. Sometimes the sound of the TV or dishwasher will send Ripley scurrying to the other room to find his dog siblings for comfort. Any home that Ripley goes to has to understand that he will need further socialization and training to overcome some of his fears. Ripley is great with his foster parents, and has taken a special liking to his foster mom. It took about a week for Rip to become affectionate with his foster mom, but now he does little zoomies when she comes home from work, and when she wakes up in the morning. He will even run up for pets with little happy tappy feet! What is Ripley's best quality you ask? HIS SMILE!! Ripley walks around and smiles all day whenever he's having a good time. He will have his mouth wide open with a big grin on his face whenever he looks at you. Ripley is most happy in his foster's fenced in yard, and an adopter should have somewhere that Rip can hang out off leash as he is more comfortable in an outdoor setting. This man would explore the yard every second of every day if he had the chance! If you are interested in this one of a kind boy, please apply on dvdpa.org!
