About JAKE

PLEASE READ INFORMATION AT THE END OF THE POST FOR ADOPTIONS Meet Jake! Jake is a 4 to 5 year old, 6.32 pound Papillon mix. He was surrendered to us because his owner said that she didn't have time for him. We aren't sure how long she had him but she said she got him out of a not ideal situation. Jake is a good dog so we are happy he is in rescue where we can find him the best new home! At first he can be a bit reserved (likely a result of having been moved from home to home) but it doesn't take him long to become an affectionate boy who loves to be gently petted. He has times where he enjoys being a lap dog, but mostly he likes to lie near you where you can reach over and scratch his head and tell him he's a good boy. If you lie down on the sofa near him he will walk over and curl up on your chest. Jake is always happy to see you and has a great ears up, tail wagging personality. He absolutely loves going for car rides and taking walks, and he walks great on a leash. Someone who enjoys taking him on outings would be a perfect fit for Jake! He gets very excited when he gets to go somewhere! He does enjoy being outside exploring the yard and a fenced yard would be nice for him. Jake has only had one accident in his foster home and it was right after another male dog in the home decided to mark something. His foster mom gave him a firm no and he has not had an accident since. Jake does get along well with other dogs but he likes his space and won't appreciate a bigger/bouncy/playful dog stepping all over him or in his face. If he is napping on the sofa or sleeping in the bed and another dog goes to step over him he will snap and growl at them but he does not bite, it is just a warning. In his foster home he co-exists best with an older female about his size. He would be fine as an only dog and has no issues with the cats in his foster home. Older kids would be best (12+). Jake is not a fan of being brushed, but he has the kind of hair that needs regular grooming or it will mat. At night Jake will want to curl up in the big bed with you. He doesn't seem to have a preferred sleeping space in the bed though. Sometimes he sleeps at the foot of the bed, and sometimes he sleeps curled up right next to you. He is generally a happy calm little dog and we believe once he gets into a home where he feels secure and loved, his personality will really shine! Jake has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested and wormed, is heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He also had a much needed dental and lost all of his teeth except for five.
