About Kanani

My name is Corinna Van Liew and I am reaching out to you with an urgent plea to help Kanani, an 8 year old bully mix who came to the shelter 8 in a severely neglected and emaciated condition. Here are some details about Kanani who is desperately in need of a rescue, foster, or home: Can we call it love at first snort? This is a story about a group of Oregon Humane Society rescue volunteers who, although accustomed to end-of-life decisions, see so much potential in bully mix Kanani that they adopted her from certain euthanasia to make one last push to find her a new home or alternate shelter. We strongly believe that it's time for beautiful Kanani to find a retirement home that can appreciate the fact that big dogs don't live forever, but pups like Kanani will make the most out of the time they have. Kanani is a 75 lb. Cane Corso mix who spent the first 8 years of her life chained to a concrete slab. She was in rough shape and facing starvation by the time she was rescued, but now she's feeling much better in spite of the lumps and bumps and wonky knees that come with age. Her knees don't affect her daily life yet and her size and age may make her a poor candidate for surgery, but until quality of life becomes an issue Kanani would love a place where she can kick back and relax. Kanani is great on leash and has enjoyed her walks in busy Portland neighborhoods, but she really lights up surrounded by the beauty of nature. Kanani is excellent in the car and it would be lovely if she found a home interested in taking her on a few excursions. She will never enjoy the hustle and bustle of a dog park, but Kanani is polite and indifferent to the dogs she sees while on leash. Our collective hope is to find a rescue, foster, or permanent home as soon as possible because the option of humane euthanasia is still on the table. If we can find the appropriate rescue/rehoming option for Kanani, we will take care of the transportation. We will also help fund the necessary expenses required for Kanani's transition.
