About Precious

Our Precious is a beguiling, timid girl, who needs a strong hand to help boost her confidence. She was found as a city stray, and Animal Control Officers brought Precious to the Brooklyn outpost of NYCACC. After her stray hold expired, nobody came looking for her, so we were delighted when the shelter transferred her to our care. Precious is a shy, gentle soul, who takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She has adapted nicely to her foster home, and seems to really enjoy human companionship and touch, once she settles in. One year old, Precious is an older puppy, who still needs a good deal of exercise to work out her yayas: at least two to three brisk leash walks daily, as well as ongoing obedience work to build her confidence. Precious has a very graceful physique, looks rather doe-like. Just 33 pounds, she possibly has some Sighthound in her DNA cocktail, most likely Whippet, due to her slight features and arched spine. Shelter workers suggest that she may be part Coonhound. In temperament, she strikes us as Sighthound, since she is very timid, submissive and extremely agile. We recommend that adopters be very cautious in allowing Precious off leash, until a full bond has formed. Precious is a sensitive girl, and she would thrive in an active adult home in which adopters have time to devote to her exercise and training needs. She may be overwhelmed by busy families with small children, but she could easily join a multi-dog home, and would likely do well with cats. Precious has good house manners and is mostly house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Precious is in good health, and has gained some healthy weight, but should probably continue to put on another couple of pounds. She would be ideal at 35 pounds. She has been recently spayed, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
