About Kai

Meet Kai! She's a stately-looking female Husky / Pit Bull mix located in Gloucester, MA. Celebrate the new year with her as she turns 6 on Jan. 1st! At 68 pounds, Kai has the body for very satisfying hugs! Kai (K-eye) is wonderful with all people from 1 to 101, both men and women. She's very gentle and patient with kids, having 'helped' raise a little boy by supporting him as he learned to walk. She's never growled at any child, and she doesn't mind sharing food and toys. She has high energy but becomes a couch potato after a good walk, run, or adventure. She is a very loving and silly girl who enjoys car rides. Over excited at first, she soon settles down for a road trip nap. Kai has a quirk for chasing her tail, but tennis balls are also fun. Kai is very smart and learns new things easily. She has an impressive trick resume considering she's never had formal training. She knows vocal and hand signals for sit, down, back-up, high five, double high five, speak, whisper, sing, spin, and up-up (to jump onto something)! Free entertainment for all your guests! (Training would help with her jumpy, vocal behavior, which occurs when she's excited. This pretty lady will be the only dog in the home because she is dog selectivite and protective of food and toys. She gets along with some dogs, but is reactive to others. This behavior is mostly focused towards male dogs and if she is on leash. Despite her tolerance of children, it is best she lives with kids 8+ who will let her eat in peace despite her tolerance of kids. A couple of years ago while at a dog park, she and a boy dog had an altercation when chasing the same ball. After they were separated, the dog came after Kai from behind and she bit him. Though she told him what's what, the dog did get a puncture wound. On the other paw, she has a playful curiosity about cats but has never lived with them. Resident cats must be dog-savvy. Sadly, Kai needs a new home as a result of a family break up. Like many dog owners who need to move, Kai's main person must rehome her because she cannot find an affordable rental that allows Kai's breed types. Kai's ideal family will spend lots of time with her and keep challenging her with the skills she enjoys doing. Kai would love a fenced-in backyard or have a wooded or outdoor area where she can explore and not worry about an off leash dog approaching her as this is when she tends to get protective.
