About Poppy

Poppy is a 3yr old pup and tries so hard to be a good girl. She came to our home after she attacked an older dog in her previous home. A home that kept her kenneled all day in a kennel way too small for her to even stand up in. They didn't care for the high energy of a German short haired pup. Poppy loves to run and needs a large fenced in yard with lots of toys (she is not gentle with them). Good idea to keep food items off the counters and out of reach because if left alone she will snatch them for herself and we've learned to keep the trash out of reach too. The owner left her for me to evaluate her behavior and attempt corrections. Poppy will probably never correct her drive to dominate other dogs and her prey drive is high. If it squeals or yelps she is on it and she will not be called off. She wants all the attention. She is very affectionate with her people and feels safest under your blankets and snuggling with you in you bed. She is house broke. We insist that she go to a home that will make her their one and only. The previous owner chose to surrender her. She does OK with kids but, is so excitable that younger children can get knocked over or hurt by her affections so we suggest young adults or older. She knows her name but only comes when called if it suits her. She will sit and shake hands. Try not to let her get loose but, if she does and you are close she doesn't wander far as long as you don't chase and open the car door for a promised ride and she is all for it. We love her but, as an Animal behavioralist, she just can't stay here forever. I have too many other dogs coming and going to risk her getting aggressive and don't want to force her back into kennel life. Her prey drive is there too so she may still make a good hunting dog to an experienced owner.
