Malachi is a really easy-going, neutered male German Shepherd who was rescued at 10 months old from a shelter. He is now 5 years old and in good health. Malachi came to us with an eating compulsion due to being caged and neglected by his first owners. He has overcome destructive chewing but still has an emotional based compulsion to eat more than he needs. He needs healthy, grain-free food and plenty of exercise. Malachi was a farm dog for the past 4.5 years. He ran loose and slept in the barn. He has a very, very thick undercoat and likes the cold and snow. I suspect there is some husky in his breeding. Now he has no farm to roam and needs to run around and have exercise and doggy 'hobbies', which I can no longer give him. Mali, as we call him, adapts well to new people. He loves everyone. He likes you to chase him to get his toys from him, but won't let you catch him. If you stop pursuing him,he will come near to you and bounce his ball and catch it over and over in front of you to entice you to try to take it from him. He is playful and kind and will adapt well to rehoming, otherwise I wouldn't rehome him. I would like to have him adopted by a farm owner in the Southwestern Ontario /Toronto environs area if possible so I can check on him a few weeks in to see that he settles in okay. Only people with a good understanding of GSD's and dealing with dogs with emotional issues should adopt him. His vaccinations are coming due now, but vet wait time is 6 weeks for appointment. He was vaccinated fully in the past.
