About Felix

Adoption Fee: $400
Boston Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

At the end of October we rescued a Boston who has been completely deprived of love, a smidge of basic care or even an ounce of empathy. He was purchased by someone not well versed in Bosties and instead of learning about the breed, working with a trainer, returning him to the breeder, or rehoming him they decided to shove him in the backyard. This is where he has lived the 2 years of his life. His owners didn't even bother to name him, they just called him 'dog.' Trying to communicate his feelings and desires he barked, he was hungry, he wanted inside, he wanted love. Again, instead of working with him they slapped a shock collar on him. The result of this life is a dog with hyperarousal issues. A sweet little man who's scared of everything including being petrified of communicating. Due to this crippling fear it seems his reactions are 'unpredictable,' he's been conditioned not to communicate. This little guy has a major issue with thresholds aka doorways as he was never allowed through one before he was surrendered, he gets so excited but is also so scared and he cannot properly process those feelings at the same time. This handsome guy doesn't know what a loving human touch is and thus is scared of hands, being picked up, or anything sudden. He has no idea how to dog, and zero clue how to Bostie which is a whole other level of 'dogging' entirely. It's heartbreaking to know what this little boy should be like vs what he is and that humans were the cause. Since arriving to rescue he has a NAME, his name is Felix meaning 'happy and fortunate.' Felix has been in a foster working on decompressing from the past 2 traumatic years of his life and adjusting to life inside. Due to his crippling fear and anxiety he will be put on some CBD and some anxiety meds this is because his fear and anxiety is so intense that he cannot get past it to make any real headway. Our plan is to hopefully be able to wean him off the meds once his responses have been reconditioned to more acceptable responses. It will be a very slow process, we know this, he didn't get this way overnight and he's not going to be rehabbed overnight. The bottom line is that this little fella didn't choose this life, and he shouldn't lose his life for being the product of his previous environment. Felix is a Behavior dog and needs a calm, patient and safe foster or furever home that is willing to work with us and our trainer to help him build his confidence, learn how to communicate, learn to trust, learn how to dog and lesson his severe anxiety and fear which is currently leading to his hyperarousal issues.
