About Martin

Adoption Fee: $200
Rat Terrier mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Martin is a Jekyll & Hyde pup: Silly, playful, and fun - but also deeply distrusting of humans and new situations. His fear is understandable: Found with two other pups in a long-abandoned home, covered in fleas and full of worms, Martin was terrified of his human rescuers at first and he was willing to snap at approaching hands. It wasn't until he witnessed his canine companions being affectionate towards their new foster mom that he slowly began to allow and accept human touch. Now part of a large pack in his foster home, Martin has learned how to be a happy, goofy puppy! He turned six months old around mid-January, he sleeps all night in his crate with few complaints, and he is mostly good about doing potty business outside when he's kept on a schedule. Martin is a follower who copies the behavior of other dogs very closely. Around his similarly fearful companion dog, he is muted, suspicious, and closed to human affection. When he is with confident, affectionate dogs, though, he is spunky, feisty, and willing to engage with his foster parents for play and petting. Therefore, Martin requires a home with at least one other confident, loving, small/medium dog who can set a great example for him to follow (large dogs frighten 10-lb. Martin). Since a leash is still a major fear trigger for him, Martin's home will need a fenced yard. In order to set Martin's adoptive family up for success, applicants should live within reasonable driving distance of Milwaukee, WI, to facilitate multiple meetings prior to adoption. Though he had a rough start in life, Martin is determined to find his forever home where he can learn how to be the best version of himself. He will take some time and patience, but this sweet puppy is absolutely worth it.
