Nala is a four year old Dutch Shepherd that has been with our family since she was 12 weeks old. She has grown up together with our 4 year old granddaughter and they are inseparable. The other household members are my wife and me, our 30 year old daughter and a 12 year old granddaughter. Over the past year Nala has on occasion grown increasingly aggressive towards the 12 year old for and has no apparent reason and has shown an increase in resource guarding. She and the 12 year old play, train, and seem to have a solid bond, so this behavior has raised our concern. The aggression finally manifested twice in a bite to the 12 year old. Although both bites were immediatelynreleased, the second bite did draw blood and we now feel that Nala will need to be rehomed. Nala does not display much prey drive and for the most part has been a homebody. She does like scent work games and could possibly be a candidate for that type of work with the proper training. She has had regular veterinary care annually and is up to date with all vaccinations, with her last vet check being done in August 2021 and is scheduled for her annual visit this month Aug 2022. This decision is very difficult for our family and we hope there is someone that can provide a loving home for Nala.
