About Malvin

Bengal
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Malvin is a fairly mellow, but definitely handsome 4-year-old Bengal Cat. He lives in a home that has a medium-sized dog he is not fond of, so much so that he actually has been known to bully the dog (nipping his ankles). Malvin's family recently expanded when they added a human baby to the home. Malvin has been demonstrating discomfort with the recent change, and has been acting a little jealous of the baby getting attention over him. He has become a little aggressive in his behavior with the owners which has amounted to the occasional nip / scratch (he would nip at his owner when she was paying attention to the baby, and not to him). They can see he's not happy, and they believe Malvin would be better in a quieter home where he is the center of attention. Malvin has not been around other cats and the owner doesn't feel he would do well with other cats either. For this reason, Malvin needs to be the ONLY cat. Given the fact that Malvin does not like young children, we would only be comfortable placing him in a home with children who are ten years or older, and have been taught proper handling techniques. Malvin can be chatty when he is seeking attention. Malvin loves laying on the couch next to his humans, scratches under the chin, playing with stick toys and looking out the windows observing the activity outside. He loves his tall cat towers and he will scratch the furniture, without adequate Cat Towers / Trees / Scratchers. Malvin likes treats and loves his automatic water fountain. At night, he loves to cuddle his owners between their legs when they bring him to bed at night - especially when it is colder outside. He is used to having someone home and has a little separation anxiety when left alone. Like most Bengals, he's not a fan of being picked up and held. He also does not like harnesses and wants to stay indoors. Malvin is currently on C-Fluoxetine, which is applied 1 time daily (transdermal - rubbed on the inside of his ear) to help his anxiety - they do think it has helped. In a new home with no baby and lots of attention, he may not need to continue this medication; sometimes things vastly improve when a cat is the center of attention. Malvin is neutered and vaccinated. He is not experiencing any litter box avoidance issues. He has no known medical issues and has been regularly seen by the family Veterinarian. The owners are looking to having Malvin re-homed after December 29th because they are going out of town starting on Dec 17th. There will be a pet sitter taking care of Malvin while the family is away. His owners love him and sure hope that we can find Malvin a family who can give him all the attention he deserves.
