About Jack

Pomeranian
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. He needs more training and socialization. 2. Adult family home only, no children. 2-year-old purebred Pomeranian, about 8 pounds *****PLEASE READ THE WHOLE BIO***** Inquiries that obviously did not read the bio will be ignored. Please tell us about your dog training history in your response!! Thank you! Jack is a handsome boy with a highly sought after rare 'cream sable' coat. He is simply gorgeous. It's impossible not to fall in love with his picture. BUT, don't let these pictures fool you... Jack was purchased from a breeder by a senior in a wheelchair. Jack spent all of his puppyhood in her lap. He was carried (wheeled) everywhere, never walked on a leash, and met no other dogs or humans other than his owners' caretakers. Life was good as a tiny puppy, getting spoiled rotten and loved-on full time. No expectations to be a well-rounded dog. But as he got older, spoiled puppy turned into unsocialized napoleon dictator that was willing to guard all that he thought was 'his'. The caretaker tried to work around this little land shark, but it became too much. He was reluctantly surrendered to the shelter; a very sad person leaving him behind. It was NOT Jack's fault. He was failed by humans. But his behavior was definitely a problem. The shelter could not adopt out a dog to the general public with this behavior, so enter Smidget Rescue. Jack has undergone some training and socialization. While not perfect, he has been able to live with other dogs, walk on a leash, go outside to potty and learn that not everything is 'his'! He is a funny guy, as he will run up to you for loves and attention. In fact, he demands it insistently! But if you are holding him and another human or dog tries to come near or touch him, he is willing to back up his thoughts with his teeth. Jack will need a very experienced adopter, one well-versed in Pomeranian care and coat maintenance. He has a very thick and full coat and at this point, grooming requires a muzzle. He also needs a person well-versed in training, behavior modification and 'napoleon syndrome'. In the few months we have had Jack, we have seen some very good changes in his attitude. He has started adapting well and shown that he CAN learn proper behavior. He is very curious and energetic. He is also very food motivated which makes training so much easier! He's a Pomeranian..so he barks.. A LOT! Watching him play with his toys is the sweetest thing ever.... just don't take them away from him. He is OK with small dogs, as long as they leave him alone. He can be a BRAT with big dogs, which is just an extension of his previously mentioned behavior. He will not be placed in a home with children of ANY age. FULL STOP Cats unknown. He does not necessarily need a home with a fenced yard, but now that he knows the joys of sniffing and running in the yard, sometimes it's hard to get him back inside. He would love to be a DOG, not a 'fur baby'. If you are an adopter willing to put in the time and training, we would love to hear from you. It doesn't hurt that he is STUNNING! Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
