About Biscuit

Bluetick Coonhound / Treeing Walker Coonhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Biscuit is the sweetest hound you'll ever meet. She has a big heart and big feelings, and of course a big hound howl. She has been with us for almost 2 years and comes from a shelter in eastern WA. She has some anxiety and triggers around our infant, soon-to-be toddler, that makes us too nervous. This is an incredibly painful and heartbreaking decision for us. However, we know she will be happy and bring joy to another home without babies. Biscuit is such a character. She's pretty good with other dogs. We take her to dog parks where she loves to chase and howl. Sometimes she gets a little overboard on both fronts and needs to be pulled away. She does have resource guarding issues, mostly over food and her favorite toy, so we take care to separate those when other dogs are around. Biscuit is a lover of the outdoors (except water) rain, shine or snow. She enjoys hiking, jogging, dancing on snow, and just strolls around the neighborhood and will do well in a home with like-minded folks. Perhaps more than anything she enjoys sniffing... and rolling on her back in grass. As with most coonhounds, we don't let her offleash due to her irresistible temptation of tracking scents and chasing animals. One of Biscuit's peculiarities is she likes to be on the move, which can make for short summit snacks or sedentary park trips. Biscuit is a pretty good walker. She's not a puller, but does enjoy sniff breaks. She gets 2 walks a day and she's not shy about telling you when. When she's not walking or zooming (usually right after walks for a short time), she snoozes pretty hard in the most adorable poses. She also has an uncanny ability to follow the sun and find any patch for sleeping. She does have reactivities on walks to certain things. The usual (cats, bunnies and sometimes squirrels, other dogs). We let her greet dogs, but keep it short. Delivery folks and occasionally other walkers are a trigger which requires some care and management. We've trained for this some, but we recommend continued training here. In the house, Biscuit makes herself pretty comfortable. No issues with destruction or bathroom mistakes. Separation anxiety when we first adopted her, but she's much more comfortable now. We've left her at home for full days, but are still working from home, so haven't tested leaving her alone for full days consistently. Welcoming guests into the house does take some time and process. Biscuit certainly loves people, but it does take some time for her to warm up. For example, we try to do 1 or 2 'practice sessions' together with new dog walkers and stay-in dog sitters in our house before leaving them alone. Visiting the vet is one of Biscuit's anxieties. However, we just brought her in early November to get her shots up and vaccines up to date.
