About Tank

Rottweiler / German Shepherd
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Tank!! If you are looking for a super smart, focused but very cuddly big dog then Tank is your man! This little fellow is a 4 month old mix of Rottie and Shepherd with an amazing thick soft coat that has big waves along his back. Tank is probably lucky to even be alive. Tank was found wandering in a very rundown hotel in a skid row type section of Bakersfield. He was severely underweight with a wound on one of his legs. A woman living at the hotel brought him into her apartment and shortly thereafter he came into rescue. He is still in the process of gaining weight but was so skinny his hip bones were sticking through his coat. He is in a foster home with large dogs, small dogs and cats and is really, really good with them all. He is learning to play with toys and loves a good chew on a pizzle stick. He is REALLY focused on his human. He has already learned to sit and wait when being given his food bowl. He is so attentive that he will be easy to train. He currently weights about 17 pounds and is still underweight. Having zero history on him or his parents we are guessing he is going to be a very big boy judging by his current height and weight. More than likely in the 70 to 80 pound plus range. He is working on housebreaking and that will definitely need to be a focus of his forever family. Being emaciated definitely slowed his progress however now that he is putting on weight (he LOVES to eat) and in a routine he is getting the hang of holding it a little longer each day. He is almost to the point where he can make it through the night. He is so smart that he will go look for a wee wee pad but he is being housebroken to go outside. Because Tank is going to be a large dog there are some requirements for adoption. He will not be placed in any home that does not have any previous power breed experience such as Rotties, Shepherds, Labs, Dobermans, Bully Breeds etc. No exceptions. He will also not be placed in a home without a yard. Tank's adoption fee includes the following: 1.His neuter (when he is old enough per the terms of our adoption agreement) 2. Current vaccines including rabies 3. Deworming done twice 4. Microchip 5. Collar and leash 6. Starter food An adoption fee does apply. As we prescreen via email ONLY (we do NOT make or receive phone calls in the pre-screening phase) please tell us a bit about you such as: 1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule. 2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment. (Please indicate city) 3. How many adults, children and pets in the household. 4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work. 5. Where your pet will sleep. 6. Dog breed experience 7. Have you ever had to give up a pet 8. If you do not currently have a pet how you will keep Tank socialized with other dogs Some notes to consider before applying for Tank: 1.Tank is still a puppy and a young puppy at that. He requires ongoing training, housebreaking, etc. to be the best dog ever. Please be sure that all parties are ready for the responsibilities of a young dog. 2. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER so do not ask. 3. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog and did not receive a response please do try again. We try to answer every email but it is not always possible. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place. 4. PLEASE do NOT send more than one email. It slows down the process. 5. There is no further information to share about Ayla. Nor is there an application. Please do not send an email asking for further information or not answer the above listed questions. That is part of our pre-screening process and is required of any potential adopter.
