About William - Special Need

Chihuahua mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

William today: Such a happy boy! William is on the MOVE! He has been getting stronger and gaining confidence in his foster home. Part of his therapy uses food puzzles and interactive toys to help keep him mentally and physically challenged. He feels secure in a regular daily routine where he has learned what to expect and knows he is safe. Update: Little William has come such along way since he first arrived in foster. When he was rescued it was believed he would never walk again properly. However after several months using his wheelchair and intense PT his back legs have regained a significant amount of strength. Currently, he is able to ambulate independently for short amounts of time. We also feel he would be best served as an only dog due to the ongoing care level he requires. However, his foster reports he is able to co-exist with a very friendly and calm canine companion as long as the other dog leaves William alone. William can still be defensive toward other dogs that get in his face due to his weaken condition. PS - William's favorite thing to do is snuggle with his humans on the couch or be super warm in his bed in front of the fireplace! See his progress video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6n1l2OqfqY Original post: William was surrendered when his previous owner decided that the new man in her life was more important than her dogs. In 2019, William stopped using his back legs. He was taken to the vet to determine the cause but his owner could not afford to pay for a diagnosis and care. So, William has been dragging his back legs for 2 years. Now that he is in foster care, he will get needed medical attention. After a trip to the vet, his foster learned that, unfortunately, since William's needs were not met 2 years ago, he will not be able to walk correctly again. William is a sweet boy and is able to move around using his front legs. He does have some control of his bowels and uses pee pads regularly. He loves being a 'pocket' dog and hanging out with you. William is about 8 years old and just 5 pounds.
