Searching for a home for my boy. This is a bit of a story sorry in advance. I work for Animal control in SW FL. A woman ends up pulling up to the shelter just as I'm walking out and basically let's this gorgeous dog out claiming she 'found' him. This dog is super sketchy for one from the get go, he just has that look. Well later down the line, he's just being a big sissy but because he's a GSD the dog walkers at the shelter are intimidated by him and he didn't get taken for walks as much as the other dogs because he wouldn't let people get a leash around him. For whatever reason I took a liking to him and was persistent and basically letting him no I wasn't dealing with his shit. A month or so goes by, he's still at the shelter. Him and I become sort of friends where I didn't have to sit with him as long to get the leash on him. He would still yell at me the whole time. I decided to see if I could foster him as long as he got along with my other dogs, cats, husband and kids. Brought him home, great success everyone gets along. My little dog doesn't like him, but he tolerates. Fast forward to now. After beginning basic training, (whoever had Sirus before did teach him sit and down, however) he's calmed down slightly and is learning well. We are still working on commands, but he catches on very quickly. My first issue feel like I have zero time to work with him, I work almost 60 hour weeks at sometimes, I'm on call through rotation of the month. I have 3 kids who are on the younger side, so helping them unfortunately comes first. I feel like I'm failing my dog. I'm on the verge of quitting my job just to have more time with my family and my dogs. But I'm torn because I love my job most days, plus the benefits. The second issue is, he's becoming more wary of my oldest son who is 13. He yells at him if my son comes into the house or into my room. I always correct him and say no!. My son will continue in and talk to Sirus and he will calm down. But yesterday we were playing catch and Sirus will leave his toy at my feet or near my feet. I walked away at that time (on the phone for work ) and my son went to grab the toy and Sirus snapped at him. No contact but, enough of a warning to make me worried. Hes bared teeth before but has never snapped at anyone. I feel as if I'm not the right fit for him at this current point in my life and am hoping I can find someone knowledgeable about the breed and who can properly give him what he needs.
