Courtesy Post: Our #Thanksgiving wish as we approach #GivingTuesday is to help find someone willing to open their heart and home to Rooster #A666747, because he got a double screw-over before a caring member of the community stepped in to lend a hand and take him to the safety of a shelter. On November 10th someone found this dog abandoned in a crate behind a smoke shop in Long Beach, they posted the 'found dog' report on Facebook and called Animal Control the following morning but they didn't arrive. The finder didn't have transportation but stated they were able to watch over the dog, so on the 11th we tried to locate someone in the area to scan for a microchip in an attempt to find the owner. He was also posted on all applicable lost & found and community group websites. In a sad turn of events, the original finder decided they could no longer watch after him and let him back out as a stray Friday night. Thankfully, he went south for 1/2 mile without getting hit by a car and bumped into some high school kids leaving Dominos Pizza. The dog was very friendly and it being late at night the teenagers weren't sure what to do, BUT they knew their wrestling coach at their high school was a dog lover so gave him a ring. The coach drove down to meet them, a good friend of ours was able to scan him for a chip, but when the chip was another dead-end the coach offered to watch him overnight and take him to Long Beach Animal Care Services the following morning. His 10 day stray hold was officially up yesterday and is now available for adoption. Everyone that interacted with this dog stated how friendly and upbeat he was even though he went through all this in a matter of 72 hours. He knew several commands and appears to be friendly and social with other dogs. Clearly this was someone's dog, but for whatever reason they decided to part ways and tossing him in a crate next to a dumpster behind a smoke shop was a viable option %90 Name: Rooster Animal ID: A666747 Age: 2 years old Gender: Neutered Male Breed: German Shepherd Husky Mix https://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=LONG.A666747 Long Beach Animal Care Services 7700, East Spring Street 90815 Long Beach California If you or someone you know has been looking for a friendly dog to add to your pack through adoption or able to foster a PAW-SOME dog until a FUREVER home is found feel free to contact us at 714-699-3481, [email protected], or the shelter directly at [email protected]
