About Mickey

Boxer mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Happy-go-lucky Mickey is an attractive white male Boxer mix from Dracut, MA. He's a nice age and size at three years and about 55 pounds. You won't be able to resist his spots and smiles. He is a good match for a home overflowing with love. Mickey has a very tenderhearted personality. He loves scritchy-scratches, petting, and treats. He gets super attached to his people and is friendly to any human he encounters. This Walmart greeter never met a stranger. He is also an athletic boy who loves the outdoors where he can romp and run to his heart's content. He's fairly high energy and loves to play, but will also snuggle for hours. He does know 'sit' and 'paw' and is pretty good at going in the direction of a pointed finger. Mickey is very smart and eager to learn, and would likely excel at agility or scent work. He loves to sprint around the backyard, wrestle with his fur-sibling, and play tug of war with his people. Plan to give Mickey tons of comfort during thunderstorms and firework displays because they frighten him to a point of severe trembling. He needs some work on socializing with other canines and leash training since he's spent most of his outdoor time in a backyard. Mickey has always lived companionably with another dog, but can be wishy washy with others. He could be your only furkid or potentially live with a playful, energetic dog who has a balanced temperament. He hasn't really interacted with other dogs except through a fence. Sometimes he gets frustrated at the barrier and barks at them. A resident dog will need to meet with Mickey to see how they get along. He has no experience with cats, but has chased and caught rabbits and rats. He does well with chickens who are behind coop wire. Mickey likes kids, but not a fan of being poked or climbed on, or having his food messed with. He's being rehomed because the current family's one-year old was bitten when he tried to take Mickey's food dish while he was eating. A few months later, he air snapped at the baby, again food was involved. He is fine with a five-year old who knows how to safely interact with him, but we prefer kids eight and above in his new family. This situation is very hard for his current people. They want a caring family who will love and understand him like they do. They say that Mickey would love to be part of an active and affectionate household, and have someone who wants a constant and affectionate companion. (He's used to having someone home all day.) He also needs someone who will attend training with him so he can be his best. Children 8+ but they must respect his needs for being left alone to eat and not poke or pull him. A home with a yard is required, but a fenced-in yard is preferred. After reading his bio, if you think you're a match for Mickey and his needs, please complete an adoption application! https://tiny.cc/ARK-Application #ARKforMickey #JustSaveThem
