About Andy

Adoption Fee: $400
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Andy is an approx. 9 month old red heeler that is fostered in Bradenton, FL. He has been with a certified behaviorist as a foster for a few months now. Andy needs to be in a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time. He needs to continue his training and loves to learn new things. He does not respond well to yelling or harsh treatment; this totally confuses him and he will shut down mentally. He loves being told what a good boy he is and reassuring pets when he is doing something right. He loves his clicker for training so the new home must learn how to do clicker training for him to catch on quickly. Andy loves going in the car for rides and visiting places like Lowe's and tractor supply. Andy is kennel trained but still needs to be let out every four hours or he may have a mistake in kennel. In our home, he has never tried to mark or gone the bathroom on the floor and goes outside with the other dogs on a leash to go potty. He walks nicely on leash and doesn't chase other animals. If he stops and acts too interested in a dog or animal, a simple leave it and let's go brings him back to you mentally and he's off to the next thing to look at or smell. Andy gets along with dogs that are his size or larger. He plays too rough for little dogs and respects the larger dogs when they have had enough of his puppy like play and backs off. Andy must have a fenced yard with someone who is willing to play with him. Andy also is an amazing swimmer. He loves his pool in the back yard and with a little coaxing will swim around for short distances since he needs to get in better shape to swim longer distances. Andy loves people but since he is a puppy still would do best in a home with children 10 yrs old and older. But the children and parents need to learn his hand signals for sit, stay etc%BD'%BD| or he will become confused and frustrated. Andy must never be allowed to put his teeth on anyone's skin while playing and there should be no rough housing, putting him on his back or pinning to the floor; this will scare any dog and in this breed could result in making the dog feel like he needs to protect himself. If you have not owned a Heeler that you've had to work with, your application will not be considered. MUST BE A VERY EXPERIENCED HEELER PERSON. Andy is up to date on vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
