About Lenny

Adoption Fee: $50
Ragdoll
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Lenny was previously posted on Rescue Me and subsequently rehomed with a family in early January, but it did not work out. Unfortunately, someone in the house was allergic to him and they brought him back to us, so we are searching for a new home for him. Due to the first failed rehoming attempt, it is that no one in the house have an allergy to pets b/c their allergies will almost certainly be a problem. Also, we are only considering prospective homes that are WITHIN 100 miles of our zip code (30114). This is a rule for us due to the fact that if Lenny does not end up being a good fit for your household, we want you to bring him back to us versus take him to a shelter. And, let's be honest, returning him to us is not likely to happen if you live in North Dakota, for example, and the distance is too great. Therefore, we will not consider, or respond to, interested households that lie outside of that radius. Lenny is literally the sweetest cat you will ever meet. I've been around cats my entire life and I can say with confidence that he is the sweetest and smartest cat I've ever known. He is lovable, peaceful, very laid back and tolerant of pretty much everything that would send any other cat into orbit. Now, it is important that you know he has chronic rhinitis and you WILL have to treat it consistently. He gets an antibiotic shot every 4-6 weeks from the vet and he takes an oral, liquid immunosuppresant and that combination keeps his rhinitis at bay. When he is not on those medications, he sneezes frequently and he WILL get a sinus infection, so his sneezes are productive, meaning, he will sneeze green/yellow snot onto the walls, carpet, you...wherever he happens to be aimed. He will also have constant colored discharge from his nose that will form a crust if not frequently wiped that is difficult to remove once dried. When he is on his medicine regimen, none of the above happens. They are non-issues. His antibiotic shots cost $75 at our vet and the immunosuppresant will cost you about $50 per month. He takes it daily for a week, then every other day, then about every third day when his sneezing is under control. Right now, he's taking it every third day b/c we've kept him on his regimen. He hates taking it and I imagine the liquid medicine tastes terrible. I wrap him in a towel while my wife gives him the syringe of medicine. Though he is ultra-cooperative, the towel is to prevent him from digging his claws into your skin. I also have to hold the back of his head while my wife puts the syringe at the back of his throat to deliver the medicine. If you don't hold his head, he'll swing it this way and that making it very difficult for you to get the liquid in his mouth. He won't fight you or holler or hiss, but he'll move his head however he can to avoid the syringe. If you don't shoot it down the back of his throat, he will spit it out. Once he takes it, I just set him down and he scampers off. He has to have bloodwork done every 6 months to monitor his organ functions since he's consistently on an immunosuppresant. At our vet, the bloodwork costs $220. It is CRITICAL that you visualize having to handle this regimen and wrapping him up and putting the syringe at the back of his throat. It is not something to just brush off and minimize b/c 'he's cute and that'll make it okay.' It's far easier for two people to do this than to try to do it alone and it is something you need to be willing to do. If you do NOT keep up his medicine regimen, he WILL get an infection and he WILL sneeze green/yellow snot everywhere he goes and frequently throughout the day. You NEED to consider this so that, if you are interested in rehoming Lenny, that you go into this with your eyes open, fully understanding the care and expense that you are offering to commit to. The wonderful parts of Lenny are obviously easy to accept. It seems a little strange to say of a cat, but he's a kind soul and very intuitive. We are rehoming him b/c we are moving out of the country in June and cannot take him with us. If you are interested in talking further, send me an email FIRST. Please do not call or text and remember that you must be within a radius of 100 miles of zip code 30114 to be considered. Thank you for considering Lenny as an addition to your home. He's a wonderfully sweet old boy and he will make a great companion for the RIGHT home.
