About Miyu

Adoption Fee: $100
Akita
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Miyu is an 8yr old Japanese Akita. She's about 45lbs which seems to be on the small side compared to most Akitas. We are temporarily fostering this beautiful girl at our work warehouse (machine shop/office). She came to us from a household that experienced some covid-related struggles and can no longer keep her. Unfortunately due to some anxiety/fear based aggression (growled at spca employee), she was at risk of being euthanized if surrendered to the SPCA. She's in a much happier place now with room to roam around the office/shop, multiple daily walks, and a half dozen dog lovers here in the shop giving her constant attention. Unfortunately she must be kept separate from our other two dogs that live here permanently, so I fear her time here is limited before she overstays her welcome with the shop owner. In desperate need of a temporary foster or forever family. Miyu is full of energy when you want to play but will also sleep hours on end or curl up next to you when you're working/resting. She never misses a meal and does her business like clockwork. Very playful and great with guests (once properly introduced). However, she does exhibit some aggression when touched on the back of the head. This may be related to a skin condition she's had on her neck for the last few weeks before we got her. We took her to the vet this week, and with a combination of cone/meds she appears to be clearing up. She exhibits some resource guarding with food and bones. This is something that could be trained and minimized over time but we're not equipped for that unfortunately. Looking for experienced dog parent(s) that will take great care of her. Must be familiar with Akitas and their temperament. Also highly recommend adult-only household, due to her unpredictability with children and other dogs.
