Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Moxie and Bear were surrendered when their owners moved and couldn't take them with them. This darling duo is the perfect elderly pair! Bear is a 14-year-old Shih-Tzu mix and is in great health overall! He does have a bit of an itchy skin issue, so his foster parents give him medicated baths twice a week. He also gets an injection of Cytopoint every 4 - 6 weeks to keep the itchies away and will need a family willing to keep up with his vet visits. He is on a strict no-chicken diet, which seems to be helping his skin issues. He is a perfect little gentleman, fully house-trained, and rarely barks. He is also very sweet, gentle, and submissive. Bear feels honored if he captures your attention, and will blissfully bury his head in your lap if you invite him over for snuggles. Moxie, a Maltese or Bichon mix, is about 15 years old and SDHH made sure she got a badly-needed dental. She is also in generally good health and recently had a very small benign bump removed from her head that was bothering her. She does have some lumps on her chest but the vet isn't worried about them and they certainly don't slow her down! Moxie has tons of energy for a older gal and loves to zoom around the house. Sometimes she over-exerts herself and so we have Meloxicam for her if she seems sore. Once, she pulled something in her back and we needed to go to the vet for laser therapy, which fixed her up almost instantly. Moxie is still working on house training. She never does 'number 2' in the house and she will go stand by the door when she needs to go out, but she's very quiet about it and if she doesn't get to go out right away her tiny body just can't hold it in. She will go on a wee-wee pad (as long as you let her pick where the wee-wee pad goes!) but her current foster parents keep a diaper on her most of the time just in case, which doesn't seem to bother her at all. She loves to have her ears rubbed. If you're lucky, she'll give you a grateful little 'kiss' on the hand. Both of these two can act like puppies! Bear loves to play with his favorite toys and will bring them to you so you can throw them for him. Moxie isn't very into playing with toys, but will happily snuggle with them in her bed. She also gets very excited after she's been praised for being a 'good doggy' or immediately after a bath and will bounce around your house like an excited little kangaroo! She can get a little anxious if there is a lot of activity in the house or if she gets worried about her human friends, but otherwise is a quiet and well-behaved little lady. They sleep in their doggy beds through the night, are good eaters, and are good with kids and other non-aggressive dogs. They LOVE their morning and late afternoon walks. Bear likes to chase, so a home without non-canine small furry friends will be best. If you'd like to meet the darling duo, please fill out an application! We're hoping that they find the right family who can help them live out their golden years in style. We can't wait to introduce this sweet pair to you.
