About Oliver

Adoption Fee: $100
Australian Cattle Dog / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Looking for a loving, responsible, and hands on family/person for Oliver, our 1.5 year old male Australian cattle dog mix. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old. Unfortunately, with my partner and I both being in school and working (and both of our future jobs requiring 12+ hour shifts), we have realized that we cannot provide the amount of attention, stimulation, and training that will give him his best possible life. Additionally, we are planning a big move in the Spring that we are concerned will be too stressful on him to make. This was a very hard and emotional decision for us to make, but we know that there is a home out there that will provide him the kind of life he deserves, and we want him to have that, even as difficult as it will be to see him go. By nature of his breed he is smart, protective and alert. He has fear-based anxiety around strangers and unfamiliar things/animals. When he is fearful he responds by barking/lunging and/or taking guard. Although he is suspicious of new people, if introduced properly he becomes very trusting and loving towards strangers (including kids! -- however we are extra careful around small children for precaution). Strangers should be introduced slowly with lots of treats/toys and positive reinforcement. For half of his life he has grown up with another dog and they are still best pals, so I know that he is capable of befriending other animals in time! We have completed six sessions with 'Good Boy' dog training in Bowling Green and he has improved tremendously, so it is definitely possible for him to make further improvements. He is very trainable and excels when having tasks/training. He loves playing with toys, frisbee and fetch! In his down time he loves to cuddle with his companions. He does best with a lot of stimulation and a place where he can run and get his energy out. We are looking for a new home that will give him the best life to thrive. Meaning we are looking for someone that has the time, stability, space, and resources for Oliver. We think that Oliver could make a great addition to a family or even on a farm with a job! Lastly, we are looking for someone who will take good care of him and keep him up to date on vet check up/vaccines/heart-worm prevention/flea & tick/etc. P.S. Our dear friend Benjamin with 'Good Boy' dog training will be offering one FREE training session for Oliver and his new family! Additional requirements: to ensure that Oliver goes to the best home possible, we are requiring to do multiple meet-and-greets until everyone (including Oliver) feels comfortable with the transition! If you are interested please reach out to me (Katie) via text! If you have any questions not covered by our description please don't hesitate!
