About Bella

Adoption Fee: $200
Border Collie / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Bella is 2.5 yr old 55 lb Border Collie/Lab/ACD mix is a very funny, sweet girl who smiles now that she has a renewed spirit. Bella is available for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home. She is a very busy dog who learned to actually fetch using diff balls and is learning about life on the leash and taking cues from other dogs. Even though Bella is a young adult, her past life didn't help her explore anything beyond her owners immediate needs. Bella was abandoned during a landlord dispute and she does have some fears to raised voices or loud sounds like a smack to the wall and the water hose. Bella is still learning about life, her biggest struggle is an over stimulation when she is headed out on the leash. She was never really out for walks or learning leash socialization as a younger dog to her it's a super big party. Using training tools I have trained her using operative and counter conditioning skills, balanced training, so as a team we can connect on walks. She can be a little intensely inquisitive with other dogs on the leash, she wasn't introduced to dogs either as a younger dog should be taught. It's our job as confident leaders to teach Bella using commands how to properly socialize with dogs. At home she has done fine w calm confident dogs, the smaller dogs size of a pug seems to be what she was familiar with and she does like dogs. Bella needs her person to be confident, obedience experienced and take her to these challenges by continuing the training and be able to demonstrate this. Bella isn't avoiding life on the leash she is learning life experiences and human leadership. She cuddles up on my lap and gives great kiss, no counter surfing, house trained and crate trained. An ideal home for Bella is: exercise w obedience; using varied balls and toys outside as she really learned this is how we play; continued positive slow introductions w dogs; a break during a long work day; 6 foot wooden fence with a large yard; children 12 and up; no cats and no apartments. Unless there is demonstrated experience in handling a dog's behavior like Bella she won't be leaving TX and has to be within a 2 hr drive from her rescuer should an adoption not work out. Bella adoption donation is $200 with an application to adopt, home visit if applicable, she is up to date and heart worm negative and will stay microchipped to rescue and adopter.
