About Rocky Road (SDF)

Adoption Fee: $250
American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

After 5 months in his new home, this sweet guy is being returned. He is currently located in%BD%A0Bellevue,WA%BD%A0%BD%A0and he is ready for meet/greets! The adopters insisted on taking him to the dog parks and high energy play with other dogs even though he does not thrive in that environment. He is dog friendly, but would prefer a house setting and backyard for playtime with other canines. Dog parks are very unpredictable and a rescue will never recommend them. Looking for an adopter that will protect him and spoil the heck out of the good boy that he is! He has had some professional training by the adopters.%BD%A0 Bio from before he was returned. Everything still stands! Bio from current adopter will be after this bio as well.%BD%A0 A %BD%BD%90%BD friendly pitty........what!!!! %BD%BD Meet Rocky Road! Rocky Road is as sweet as Ice Cream in the Summer time.........a blend of chocolate ice cream, nuts & marshmellows.%BD%A0Rocky is estimated to be around 2 years old and 55 pounds! He is dog friendly (slow intros please) and cat friendly.%BD%A0He is a bit scared of the kitty cats and may even run away if one were to paw at him! He is kid friendly too! Because of his size and build.......older kids recommended!%BD%A0Rocky lovvveeeessss people, water, and snuggle time. He loves curling right up next to you after a long day of playing! Rockys current foster home%BD%A0working hard on obedience training (see below).%BD%A0Rocky is very treat motivated and loves to please people!%BD%A0He has%BD%A0lots of energy to blow so we will be looking for active adopters for this sweet boy!%BD%A0 Training with current adopter:%BD%A0 Crate: Rocky came to us fully crate trained. At the recommendation of our trainer we stopped allowing Rocky to sleep on the bed with us at night and placed him in his crate instead. After%BD%A0three nights of doing this, we were able to place him in his crate, but leave the door open - and he sleeps willingly in the open crate all night. Since we started having him sleep in the crate overnight, he has been slightly less willing to go in during the day - but still does with only a little hesitation. We have tried not to keep him in the crate for more than 2 hours at a time. House - Rocky has had only one incident of urinating in the house (we decided to allow him out of the crate while we were away for 4 hours). Linda works primarily from home, so he has access to the yard multiple times during the day. His break schedule is very consistent. He has not been destructive in the house - though he does want to jump up onto furniture. We have an ottoman that is HIS and have trained him to climb up onto that; however, we must block access to the couch, and he is allowed on our bed only when invited (for brief snuggle sessions). Leash, Commands,%BD%A0E-collar: Rocky did not walk well on a leash when we first started working with him. We tried MANY different types (gentle leader, Dog Whisperer Illusion collar, two types of no-pull harness). We ended up using the no pull harness primarily.%BD%A0With 3 weeks of e-collar training (focused on%BD%A07 commands: heel, come, sit, stay, bed, crate and place), Rocky has improved and is doing well with heel (on the left), sit, stay, and crate commands. He is less strong on the come command.%BD%A0We use the e-collar inside and outside; the setting is lower inside the house as he%BD%A0has no distractions. Tricks/Toys: Rocky came to us with some understanding of typical command words and tricks. He now knows sit, stay, shake (either paw), spin (to his right) and down (where he lays down). He is both praise and treat motivated and we have used both with trick training. We taught him to fetch a ball and use 'drop' to have him release it at our feet. He enjoys playing fetch. To make it more challenging (and support the e-collar training commands) we now have him sit and then do another 'trick' before we toss the ball (i.e., shake, etc.) We also taught him to sit and stay at any doorway, and wait to be released before he goes in our out. When we return from a walk, he is trained to have his feet (and body if needed) dried with a towel, and once inside, he sits and waits to have his coat and leash removed. We also taught him 'leave it' when we are out walking and he sees a prey animal (rabbit, squirrel, cat, etc.). He is pretty good about that - unless the creature runs RIGHT in front of him (and then his%BD%A0drive kicks in and he'll pull). - normal behavior.
