About Luxi

Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

COURTESY POST Luxi is a 3 1/2 year old McNab/Boarder Collie/Cattle dog (?). She is very smart, energetic, well-trained and affectionate to her owners. She is vaccinated, microchipped, and is spayed. She is looking for a home with an active person who likes to take their dog on hikes and long walks. Luxi has hiked over 140 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, in addition to other trails. She is well-trained with a good 'understanding'( I counted up to a 40 word vocabulary.). She will play for hours. She has strong herding instincts. She is very suspicious of new people but becomes very loyal once she knows them. She is an excellent watchdog for a running woman (or man) who is looking for companionship and protection. She will send out a strong warning bark to anyone on a trail who may be hiding behind a tree or doing something alarming. If you think that Luxi is a good fit for your family, please email the owner Rick at: [email protected] There is no rehoming fee, but we want to make sure she is a good fit. We will provide a lot of ancillary items that belong to her, including the crate. An ideal fit may be a working environment on a ranch or farm. Because she has strong herding instincts, and is intelligent, she can learn farm/ranch 'jobs' quickly, if trained by an experience agrarian. We do not recommend her to people who have never owned a dog, because she has to build up trust in her new owner and will be anxious leaving us. We are not sure how she is with very young children. We would not recommend her for any child under 6 since she may try to herd them by nipping, which is why we are rehoming her. We have grandchildren coming in the future and don't want to take a chance with a toddler. We will definitely miss her, though. The best dog we have ever had, but we were happy we saved her from a terrible environment 18 months ago. We was abandoned and tied to a light pole at night in front of a shelter. She has a lot of allergies, which are completely controlled through daily medication. Because we are probably the best thing to come into her life, we are working on her separation anxiety problem. We would recommend slowly transitioning her into a new home as she learns about her new owners. A trial period is not out of the question if not too far from where we live.
