About Nanook

A volunteer writes: 'As I walk into a room full of barking dogs, this sweet, elderly gentleman quickly catches my attention, quietly curled up on his blanket and seemingly tuned out to all the noise. He strolls over to greet me and I assume we'll go for a slow, short walk, but Nanook proves me wrong - going just as far and at a pace of a dog half his age, with lovely leash manners to boot! I offer some treats and though he isn't to interested, he's completely at ease taking treats from my hand. After finishing them, he looks at me with his cute frosted face, which gets him a few more. (Ah, he's training me well!). Nanook came to us when his previous family was unable to care for him. They describe him as friendly and outgoing and tell us he got along nicely with the resident child and other dogs. (He was respectful at playgroup, too). Nanook has been uncomfortable with a lot of touching - giving clear signs when he's had enough - so he'd do best with an adopter who understands dog body language and will take a slow approach.'
