About Riley

Meet and greets will be held in TARZANA, CA https://pawsitivetailstoremember.forms-db.com/view.php?id=17980 Riley is 7 years old, he weighs 16 lbs, and is a male Chihuahua/Doxie mix. Riley has a silky golden colored short-haired coat that will require minimal care; he is leash and mostly house trained and can also use a doggie door! Riley was rescued from the Contra Costa Shelter after he was surrendered by his owners with another 1 year old dog also in the home and he is just beautiful. Riley is current on vaccines, microchipped and is neutered. The first 7 years of Riley's life were not easy ones. We believe that he was banished to his former owners backyard, where he was flea/mite infested, overweight and was missing much of his fur due to a lack of regular care�'�|and to top it off, he was unsocialized and terrified of people. Once rescued, he went to our vet where we discovered he was suffering from massive skin, ear and eye infections and required regular medicated baths, quality food, flea/tick meds, antibiotics and finally�'�|.just simple love and care. Riley's fur has grown back with the exception of his upper chest area and he's just beautiful. It took this gentle and quiet boy time to adjust to having regular meals, a soft bed, calm and warm hands reaching out to stroke and pet him and he slowly allowed himself to be loved. He now runs and excitedly greets his foster mom when she comes home and he asks to be picked up to sit on the sofa with her! For most dogs, this is normal behavior, for Riley, this is a huge accomplishment as he continues to move forward in trusting people. We are so proud of him! We will be extremely cautious in choosing his new forever family and he will require time to adjust to a new home; he will be shy and will possibly shut down a bit, but time WILL CURE THAT. We are looking for someone who is retired or working from home, has a quiet environment with no children under the age of 14 yrs old and will be willing to work with Riley to gain his trust. Riley is a rescue dog in the truest sense of the word; he comes with baggage, he's not perfect and he will require time and some work. If you are truly looking to make a difference in a dogs life, Riley is your boy! This sweet boy would love nothing more than a forever family to call his own!
