About Stella Mae

American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Stella Mae is a 5-year old, 70-pound female American Staffordshire Terrier who resides in Plymouth MA. This pretty brindle would be a great pal for hiking and playing ball. There's no need to cajole her into the car, because she's always ready for an adventure. Stella Mae has been in a caring foster home since May. Her foster mom would love to keep fostering her, but the rescue where Stella came from was not forthcoming about Stella's activity level and refuses to take her back. The foster mom has a disability that prevents her from taking Stella on walks and other physical activities. With your help, ARK intends to remedy this unfortunate mismatch. Stella, as her friends call her, is a sweet Staffie who loves when visitors come to the house. She loves to get belly rubs and scratches under her chin. She has a lot of tickle spots if you can find them! Since she has been passed around, she sometimes likes to have her own space when feeling unsure of herself. Stella is smart, treat-motivated to learn, and follows directions well. She knows basic commands: sit, stay, heel (walk), paw, 'in' which to her means come back into the house or into the car, and 'up' to get up on the bed. She's currently working on 'come' and 'place.' She's fairly good at 'down,' but her enthusiasm to jump on people makes her forget her manners sometimes. Though she's never aggressive, she shouldn't live with young children in case she'd accidentally knock a little one down! Ages 8-10+ are best. Stella is an energetic girl who loves to go for walks in the woods and go on car rides - we're sure she'd love hiking and camping. She's great on leash and loves to chase a ball. She is a pretty strong chewer so forget about stuffed toys! The Kong balls and toys hold up better for her. She does like her treat toys, or anything that she has to work at getting to. Stella is working on socializing with other animals, and will need her new pet parent to continue this work. She has been doing great with the other dogs at her training classes, but has in the past barked at strange dogs and has bitten one other dog. No serious injuries resulted. We believe it was a fear response and not aggression. For now Stella is best as a one and only fur kid. Stella's ideal adopter has dog experience and is active. She needs someone to include her in family activities. A fenced in yard is preferred, kids 8-10+, no other pets. Plenty of sunshine, walks, hiking, running...she'd love it all! She is up to date with all required shots and flea/tick preventative. She's also spayed, potty trained, and is well behaved when left alone in the home.
