About Bentley

Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Bentley is a sweet boy who is looking for a specific type of home that he can thrive in and be a loyal companion. He is a 8 year old, 65 lbs, Heeler/Shepherd mix. He is fixed, microchipped, and UTD on shots. Bentley would love to live with a single person that he can bestow all his love and loyalty on. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home. No cats. Rambunctious activity and loud noises make Bentley anxious, so he needs a home without children in it. His ideal home is one without many people moving through it that provides tranquility and routine. Bentley needs his person to be experienced with anxious dogs and herding breeds. He can be reactive or show guarding/corrective behavior in stressful situations that he feels are 'threatening' to his person. His person will need to be conscious of his anxiety triggers and work around them. Bentley has done well with desensitization training for some of his anxiety triggers and in his ideal home many of his triggers would not exist. Bentley is VERY food motivated and easy to train. He is a smart pup and has made up his own games with his ball. Bentely's house manners are superb. He is house trained, stays off furniture and has never been destructive. Though he would love to nap nearby while his person worked from home or in the garden, he does fine when they are away from the house. Bentley does great in the car. On-leash Bentley is wonderful, he does not pull and will 'heel' when asked. Off leash, Bentely has good recall and will not let his person out of his sight. Though now in his golden years, Bentley is an active dog. He loves walks, hikes and swimming. He is restricted in types of activities that include jumping and twisting motions to avoid a flare up of an old injury. Bentley will alert his person to any suspicious noises outside the home, for this reason he needs to be in a single family home, not an apartment. Bentley can be picky about dog friends. He does fine with calm, respectful dogs that do not try to engage in play or dominate. He enjoys hiking with dog friends but finds dog parks overwhelming. Bentely typically needs time and space to warm up to new people. Once he is familiar with someone he is an enthusiastic greeter, and enjoys a pet or two, but typically doesn't want a lot of affection. Snuggles are reserved only for his person. In his ideal home, Bentley is a mellow and sweet companion. He likes to keep his person within eyesight and occasionally check in for a head scratch. He would love to be able to get out on the trails or roam country property, plodding right behind his person.
