About Peachy

Adoption Fee: $250.
Papillon / Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

I need to move forward with cute 8lb Peachy finding a permanent home, which was difficult to do during Covid closures, taking 6 months alone with driving to Joliet just to get her spayed. Not wanting anyone in my house to meet her over the winter. Since Peachy is such a 'hunter/prey' dog, (stopping on a dime and then off like a shot), I feel she needs owners who don't have a balance issue and would walk her, not pee pads in a high rise. I can't foster other dogs until Peachy is gone as I had an emergency foster that Peachy saw as an interloper and I had to keep Luna on the back porch til she was re-fostered. Peachy is the happiest dog! She greets me in the morning with her tail wagging so fast her whole butt moves. She has become quite obedient and isn't yappy. Energetic but not overly. She's fully housebroken, loves l-o-n-g walks though can be skittish with city noises, is sweet but doesn't back down from big dogs or strangers when approached. Not a typical 'lap' dog, she will chase after rabbits, squirrels, birds with a fury. Independent, she's doesn't like to be picked up but prefers to jump up on her own when invited. Enjoys playing fetch and chase in the house too. And dances on her hind legs. She doesn't chew or bite. She has a bright personality and one of the most easy to recommend dogs I have ever fostered. However, transitioning her to a new home will require patience as after all this Covid time, she thinks I'm her 'person'. At first she protectively barks and may try to nip at strangers' ankles if they approach too quickly, and without bending down esp men. Helen and Paul have won her over slowly and now come into my house when I'm away to feed and play with her. She does bring life to a house! Greeting you at the door, following you to each room, just so happy to be near you. Wants to go with you in the car. Likes her bed in her open crate. Ideally she has someone home a lot and with a yard or LONG walks. Not good with tiny kids. I think she needs to be transitioned gradually, meeting possible foster/owners several times, getting truly comfortable with them. Could take several visits. But this wonderful dog is worth every patient minute now, for the years of joyful loyal companionship to come. I thank you, and Peachy will thank you eventually.
