About MERRY

Scottish Terrier / Foxhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Merry is the cutest Terrier-mix dog of about 2-3 years old and weighing 40 pounds. She is a young and active dog , so her future owner needs to be active - someone who can take her on daily walks or hikes. Once she gets her regular exercise she is pretty calm in the house, as she loves to chill and hang out with her people. Merry is a very affectionate girl that loves to get attention from her people, loves to cuddle, loves getting petted, and of course loves belly rubs. She walks pretty well on leash - she might pull a little but is easily corrected; with some basic obedience training alongside her future owner, she will become even better. We think she might have some Hound in her because she loves to chase birds. She is great at meeting new dogs on leash during her walks and she will even try to bow in order to invite the other dog to play. Merry loves playing with other dogs and has been very social around them, so if her future owner doesn't have any dogs it will be great to find some friends with dogs for playdates. Merry lives in a foster home with small- and large-size dogs; she has also been to daycare many times and did really well with all-size dogs. She is pretty much housebroken in her foster home, but in her future home she might have accidents at first. However, with some guidance she will learn pretty quickly. She is not destructive when left alone, loves to play with toys, and you might even catch her carrying around your shoes or any of your items that you leave accessible, but luckily she doesn't destroy them. She doesn't dig in the yard - just loves to run around and explore. In her foster home, in the beginning, she was crated at night, which she didn't like but dealt with it; later on foster mom let her sleep in the kitchen alone, gated, and she did really well all night not making a sound. Merry is great during car rides and has no problem jumping onto a SUV back seat. Merry is a very smart dog - she knows she is adorable, super-cute, and she will try to get away with some behaviors when she first arrives in her forever home. What type of behaviors? If a household has two people, she will decide that one of these two people (it will probably will be female person) is her person, and she will bond with that person first and growl and bark at the second person; this behavior usually takes about a week to go away, once both of the owners do some work with her. She is easily correctable with firm verbal commands. Also, she is very treat-motivated, and with some yummy treats like boiled chicken she will become best friends with both people. She will also try to engage in this behavior with anyone who comes to her home to visit. Since she is very young, with continuous work we believe this behavior will go away with time. Another behavioral issue that might occur if there is a second dog in her forever home: even though she loves other dogs, she gets jealous if the second dog goes near her people - this behavior is also easily correctable verbally. What type of home would be best for Merry? Adult home - No kids No cats, as she will chase them If another dog is in her future home, it needs to be a tolerant dog and probably a submissive male would be the best fit Merry is suitable for a house with a yard or an apartment setting
