About Nala

Nala has been loved all her life, but not entirely in the right way. Isolated and doted on, the only life Nala has known revolved around the pandemic. She never learned the skills for being a confident, socialized dog. We would like a special adopter to be part of our plan to turn this dog's life around! Nala is a 1.5-year old, 50-pound female pit bull located in Lynn, MA. Nala needs a new home because her current family has fallen on tough times. One of their challenges was having to move from a pet friendly home to an apartment with breed bias. Her rescue hero will be helping a sweet dog, but also a family of three. Nala is a small pittie with sparkly eyes. She loves attention and being with those she loves. She is an active, energetic girl, whose favorite games are fetch and tug-of-war. She also loves running off-leash in an enclosed area. A life of seclusion caused her to be afraid of strangers and other dogs, and she also grew overprotective of her current mom. However, when not stressed and just hanging out with her people, Nala is an absolute lovebug! She's a different dog when things are calm and she knows what's going on. We have a plan to help Nala change her mindset from fear and uncertainty to happy and self-assured. Once we find the right person, ARK will pay for Nala to attend a Board & Train program. A good doggie training program is just half the equation. To really make a difference she needs someone in place who will watch her blossom with training and be ready to bring her home. Nala's adopter will be getting a well-trained pet, but that person MUST be committed to continuing all her skills in the manner in which she'll be trained. Nala is smart and young. We expect wonderful results from several weeks of immersive training. She already knows some basic commands and is motivated by treats. Nala is not an aggressive dog, but she has limited options because of her stranger danger and lack of socialization with other dogs. She would be euthanized without intervention like this. It's not her fault; it's all she knows. If you like to reap rewards after hard work, then be part of Nala's hard work and give her the reward of a forever home. Nala is healthy except for a chicken allergy and some seasonal skin irritation She is spayed, and up-to-date on all her shots. She is house trained and behaves when left alone. At this time Nala is not good with other dogs so she is listed as an only pet. This may change once she is trained, but initially she will fly solo. Her ideal family is small, calm, and likes having a routine. She would do best with one or two adults. For a family with kids, one or two dog savvy kids only, ages 10+.
