About Scooter

Adoption Fee: $600
Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Scooter's adoption is pending. This is a bonded pair. Dachshund (Scooter) as seen in photo and a blond chihuahua (Tinkerbell). Doxie is 1 year old and chihuahua was 1 in June. Fee is for both dogs together. Scooter is 11 pounds. Both of the dogs are potty trained but I take them out often. Scooter has a separation anxiety issue. He is learning to stay in a kennel and has done so for up to 4 and a half hours but he may chew on a blanket and he does bark when left. We face Tinkerbell's and Scooter's kennels toward each other when leaving them. We have left them out together with our older dogs but if just the 2 of them are left out for very long they do get into mischief as they are still puppies. Scooter would be lost without Tinkerbell. He came to me very anxious and has clung to me, wherever I go, whatever I do, he's right there with me. The second I stand up from the couch he's right there at my foot. He knows to sit and wait and can wait up to a minute for a treat placed 6 inches in front of him even if I walk across the room. He waits for his food until given the release command. He does have an ankle issue (carpal subluxation). There wasn't any place to put it in the health issues part. Sometimes it gets a bit out of place, turned out and he won't run for a day but most of the time it doesn't seem to bother him at all and he's not on any meds for it. He is long hair and I brush him every night. I also brush his teeth with a finger brush. I also check the hair between his toes every night as it can clump and then it pulls on his pads. He doesn't mind any of these things and the vet techs love him when I bring him into the vet as he's very well mannered. This pairs dream home would be a 30 something who works from home and takes them wherever they go. They still have learning to do and some socializing would help a lot for their anxiety around other dogs. They're fine with their big brothers in the home but scared around other dogs. They really are a lot of fun, especially outside where they chase each other. They would require a securely fenced in yard to run in (the more obstacles the better). Tinkerbell is like the flash, she is soooo fast! Read more about Tinkerbell on her adoption page. Whoever adopts these 2 should have a lot of energy, be familiar (have had both types of dogs before) with both breeds and know how to train dogs very well and lovingly. They would not be happy in an apt setting or a place without a yard. Scooter will bark if he is left in his kennel and he will become frantic if left for more than a few hours. Please read Tinkerbell's ad also before contacting me.
