About Lucky

Meet Lucky Handsome Lucky is an amazing dog. He has brought us nothing but joy and happiness since coming to the shelter. He's as perfect as perfect can be. Lucky is a gorgeous golden retriever/shepherd mix. He has beautiful hazel colored eyes that will melt your heart. His physique and coat are stunning. Lucky receives a lot of compliments because he is so gorgeous. This combined, with his incredible personality, and Lucky is not to be matched. He's about five years young, incredibly athletic and so smart. Lucky has learned several commands easily. Lucky is gentle and docile, except when it comes to stuffed toys. He loves tearing them apart. Lucky is house-trained, but he will need some remedial training and gentle consistent correction to help him relearn. He is calm and easy to have around. His manners extend to walking him as well. He LOVES going for walks and is an easy stroll, no pulling or straining, just a casual walk in the park. Lucky LOVES nothing more than to snuggle with his people. He lives for belly rubs and soaks up all the attention he can get. He's very affectionate and such a joy to be around. Lucky has been through a lot in his life and he is cautious about bonding at first. Once he gets to know you though, he is all in. Lucky struggles when alone, but once he learns that he's not being abandoned, he'll be okay. Lucky seems to gravitate towards women. Lucky is not treat motivated, but he loves his chicken bits and he LOVES chewing on his bones. So fun!!! Lucky pays no attention to various farm and exotic animals and doesn't have much of a reaction when seeing them. Unlike most retrievers, Lucky doesn't like getting his paws wet and is not what we'd describe as a water dog. LOL! He does well with dogs closer in size to him, but no small dogs, they tend to antagonize him. He loves to play and another medium to large dog might be a perfect companion for Lucky. Having a containment yard where he can run and romp and explore will be important, and he'd thrive with an active person or family. Lucky loves a comfy couch and snuggle time. If you are looking for an incredible companion, Lucky may be just what you're looking for. He will make for a wonderful companion. We think the adopter lucky enough to adopt Lucky will be one lucky adopter indeed. We are over the moon for this boy and know anyone who meets will be too. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
