About Mookie

Mookie has had a rough start in life and it shows in her reservations and fear of new people. She is more responsive and comfortable with women. Since her earliest life was spent in the company of small dogs, she would ideally be happiest having another small playful and friendly canine companion. She has tried endlessly to engage the elderly pom and older Eskimo dog in her foster home, but she really needs a more active playmate. It took a couple of weeks in her foster home, but she has become exuberant, active, and has really come out of her shell, even though she still has some emotional growing to do. She remains somewhat hesitant of the male in the home, but she is slowly developing trust.�%A0 She would do exceptionally well in a patient, preferably female home, with someone willing to get on the floor to meet her eye to eye, which her foster home has found is the best way to garner her favor.�%A0 Mookie hasn't an aggressive bone in her body, but she is easily frightened/startled, and approaches to her should be soft and slow to allow her to become familiar on her terms.�%A0 Young children are likely a no go, simply due to the fact that she startles so easily with quick movement. Once she is comfortable in her environment, she LOVES to play, play, play, and enjoys squeaky toys and balls thrown in the yard, and a soft lap to sit in on the couch. Mookie is very food motivated, and lots of tiny treats have been a major factor in her learning. Leash walking is coming along, bit by bit, as is her potty training.�%A0 House training is coming along slowly, she uses pee pads in the house, and does her business outside about 75% of the time. Frequent potty breaks and lots of praise and treats have resulted in increased success. Mookie is a work in progress. Her recall is improving daily. She now knows that the words 'Mookie, come!' will result in a tasty treat when she comes as called. Mookie is a really good girl with a lot of potential to learn. She is very agile, and could possibly be seen as an agility candidate if she can be patiently helped to move beyond her fear of the unfamiliar. Given that she is continuing to learn leash walking, and enjoys running and playing outdoors, a fenced yard is in her best interests. She is about 3 years old and weighs 22lbs. Mookie has a truly loving nature and deserves to live her best life with a home of her own.�%A0 Will you be Mookie's happily ever after?
