About SHASTA

***NEEDS FUREVER HOME*** Meet SHASTA! She is an almost 5-year-old black flat-coated retriever who has been adored by her family (mom, 18 year old, senior small dog) for the last 9 months, but her fear of wheelchairs by a visiting family member was a problem that they could not manage. SHASTA loves everyone she meets. She can't get enough love from people, following you and pawing if you stop petting her. During a recent camping trip, she enjoyed stopping by the other campsites to introduce herself. SHASTA enjoys lounging on the couch, sleeping with you, and sleeping in her bed next to you. She is not destructive in the home, but will carry around the occasional slipper or shoe and may use it as a chew-toy. SHASTA does well with other dogs. She has spent time at Camp Bow Wow (off-leash doggy playgroups). She is good about telling other dogs to move away when she wants more people-attention, but is not mean at all. SHASTA enjoys her walks and loves to smell everything. She may be carrying around a few extra pounds, but it doesn't slow her down during off-leash runs. SHASTA loves adventures but has shown some hesitancy to get into the car unless her people get in first. She loves the water; plopping down in streams. She sits and shakes on command and is food-motivated to learn more. SHASTA has not been exposed to cats, but she loves chasing squirrels and will kill them. SHASTA will likely be a good watchdog as she has been known to go out in the yard and bark when left home alone. She has not been left alone for more than 4 hours at a time.
