About Hercules

PLEASE HELP! Urgent - A very nice, young military family is in desperate need to rehome their dog. They are unable to keep him in Methuen beyond late November. Hello, my name is Hercules! I'm a 2-year old, 70-pound male lab/pointer mix who currently lives in Methuen, MA. I am a big, goofy dog and I love to cuddle. I'm also a social butterfly who loves people. You probably want to know why I'm looking for a home, being such a prize and all. Well, about two years ago I was found on the side of the road in Georgia by people who became my first family. I loved them so much, but I wasn't crazy about the other stray dogs they had taken in. So, I ended up in Methuen with my grandparents while my friends at ARK are finding me a new home in friendly New England! I have a lot of energy and like to keep busy. I love being outside and being active. I'm looking for someone who is spirited like me, someone who likes outdoor fun such as hiking, running, and long walks. You can take me places too. I love a good car ride. I'm also a lovebug who forgets how big I am when snuggling. Since I'm such a people-dog I wouldn't want to be alone for too many hours in the day. I am very good with children, but because of my exuberance I need a home with kids who are age 10 or older. A nice man came by to see how I'm doing so far. I hate to brag, but he said, 'I'm a great dog, great with people, super smart, and I stop and listen' with good direction. But I'm not perfect (yet). He also said I need training and lots of consistency when walking on a leash (I get ultra excited to see new people and dogs and like to pull and jump). I need a committed leader to set boundaries, gently but firmly. No pushovers! Training won't be a problem. I'm treat-motivated, a people pleaser, and that nice man said a Martingale lead will be a great tool for me. Know who else visited me? A photographer lady took my pictures; she even got my good side. She couldn't believe how friendly and cute I am. (Her words, not mine.) Once I get some training, I would love playdates. For now, I'll need to be your one and only fur kid. That includes cats or small animals because I have no experience with them. I am up to date on all of my shots and preventatives. I am neutered and house trained. I've never had one accident in the house! I'm crate trained but I do love having ready access to comfy spots around the house. Once I am used to living in a new space, I can be trusted to be left alone as I like to just look out the window and sleep. Having my very own yard is important to me. If I could run off leash inside a fenced yard, you'd make my every day. No matter if I'm playing, going on a walk, or just lounging on the couch, I'm happy spending time with the people I cherish.
