Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/ Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Gracie, an 8 year old maltese mix arrived at a busy city shelter as a skinny stray, before she was welcomed into her foster home with Senior Dog Haven and Hospice. She was found to be a diabetic, which accounts for how underweight she was. Gracie underwent a procedure to remove multiple mammary tumors, spay, a dental, and a glucose curve to ensure proper Insulin dosing. She has diabetes related cataracts, and saw an eye specialist and was started on eye drops. She has gained weight and is now 13lbs. Her vetting is completed, but she will need to see a vet twice a year to keep her diabetes well managed. She lives with many other dogs, but would do best in a small dog home or as an only dog, and no small children. Gracie has NOT been cat tested. Grace's Insulin is about $365/year, plus the cost of needles $150/year. G-GREGARIOUS, but can be a bit GRUMPY at times. R-REQUIRES insulin to control her diabetes; RESILIENT; RAPIDLY tolerated her insulin shots. A-ADAPTABLE, loves her walks, and easily navigates her environment despite her cataracts. Can be ALARMED with large dogs and young kids activities. C-CARRIES her toys everywhere, COMMUNICATES her displeasure if not first in line to eat, and is CONTENT to gobble her meals. I-INTERESTED in being with her human, and sleeps soundly all night on fosters bed. IN process of potty training. E-She loves to EXERCISE on a walk/yard, EAGER to curl up on the floor or in a dog bed. She is also EAGER to find her forever home. Could that be with you?
