About Burfy

I really hate putting Burfy up for adoption. My daughter has become involved in fostering children and they spend a lot of time at our small ranch so I think I better thin the herd to make the environment safer. Burfy is a rather large 4 year old male Malinois. He looks intimidating but he is almost like a big playful baby. Like most Mals, if you pick up a ball, his radar goes on alert and he is looking to play. Because of his large size, in his excitement, he could easily overpower a small child. Burfy is not formally trained but is very obedient. He will go to his kennel when given the command, or when he hears fireworks or guns or when he thinks he is in trouble. When he was about 6 months old, he was kicked by a neighbor's cow and developed a limp. I took him to the Vet and after x rays, they discovered that part of his right knee was broken in several small bits. The vet said they could try surgery but could not guarantee that he would be as good as new. I let the vet know that Burfy was still running around and jumping with the other Mals and we both agreed that maybe surgery was not the best option. If you watch the attached Youtube video, you can see that this injury has not affected his mobility much at all. He still runs and jumps with the other dogs. He has even sired a litter of Mals. He is good with female dogs but I am not sure about other males as he has never been around any. Burfy is a great dog and companion. As he has matured he has gotten out of the 'chewing'stage and is pretty low maintenance. I feed him Victor's in the Teal bag because with other foods, I think he develops a food allergy and starts scratching. Burfy has never been an inside dog and I doubt he would do well in doors. He needs a home with a large yard or small ranch, ideally with a kennel as I believe it gives him a sense of security. Even though I leave him loose, he will return to his kennel to sleep.
