About KEELY

All of our available animals are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Once approved families are invited to schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home their new forever best friend. KEELY is spayed, core vaccines, de-wormed, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested and microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 15 September 2020 and weighs around 61 pounds. She had a litter of puppies and has been the most gentle, sweet caring mother. We cannot say for sure what breed she is, so we expect families to do their own research on her look and size and decide what breed you think she is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for her needs. Keely is a very sweet, loving girl who is good with other dogs of all ages and sizes. She likes to be where I am and will lie at my feet, or at the bedroom door when she can. She is very responsive. She is a gentle soul who deserves a wonderful life and family. She has been living in the house with a lot of other dogs, pups and shares sleeping, eating and drinking with all the others and has never had any problems. She can at times be a little protective of a hoof she might be chewing, but it is not aggression, just letting whoever is coming near her, that it is hers and she is not giving it up. She uses the dog door to go outside, however, I cannot say she is house-trained since she may not know to let you know she wants to go out. The times she has been to the vets, she gets so excited when she see's the leash and jumps eagerly in the car, she has been great with all vet techs and the vet and everyone has commented on her gentle, sweet demeanor. Keely has been in the bedroom where there are cats and after initial sniffing and following round, she has not been bothered with them. That is not to say she is going to like every cat she meets, so if a family has cats it is important proper introductions are done, cats have an escape route and trust should not be given for several months. Keely is a medium, large, active dog and so we are only accepting applications that has and will have the lifestyle that will be most beneficial to her needs, now and over the next 8+ years. More pictures and possible video's can be found on her page on the rescue website. You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the '3 Point Rule' Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3 month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating in accordance with dogfoodadvisor.com. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! ALL dogs are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas, or other locations, countries to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian families must confirm with the border that they are able to cross and have the required vaccines, documentation and anything else needed to enter the US. Also it is important to know that Canadian Customs charge 15% taxes on the adoption when you return into Canada.
