About SHEENA

Adoption Fee: $550
White Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

All of our available animals are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. Once approved families are invited to schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and hopefully take home their new forever best friend. Sheena is spayed, core vaccines, de-wormed, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested and microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 14 September 2019 and weighs around 72 pounds. She had a litter of puppies and has been the most gentle, sweet caring mother. W e cannot say for sure what breed he is, so we expect families to do their own research on his look and size and decide what breed you think he is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for his needs. Sheena went to live with her temporary foster family on 21st November 2021. She is doing great, she is on a diet and getting to enjoy walks and hikes in the woods. Sheena has piled on some extra pounds since her pups have been weaned, she doesn't want to accept that she is not feeding for 6 anymore lol. She will absolutely need a family that will ensure that she gets a moderated diet and a good exercise routine to enable her to lose these extra pounds, that are not healthy! Sheena is a very sweet, loving girl who is fantastic with other dogs of all ages and sizes. She is a typical shepherd where she likes to be wherever I am and is very responsive. She is a gentle soul who deserves a wonderful life and family. She has been living in the house with a lot of other dogs, pups and shares sleeping, eating and drinking with all the others and has never had any problems. She uses the dog door to go outside, however, I cannot say she is house-trained since she may not know to let you know she wants to go out. She is affectionate with everyone she meets, she still plays and wrestles with her pups and the other pups here at the rescue and she loves to wrestle and chase with her other big dog friends. She rides wonderful in the car and walks nicely on the leash. She has been near cats and is interested, but has not shown any aggression, just a very curious attitude, she has never been left alone with them, nor been near them for more than a few minutes. The times she has been to the vets, she gets so excited when she see's the leash and jumps eagerly in the car, she has been great with all vet techs and the vet and everyone has commented on her gentle, sweet demeanor. She LOVES squeaky toys and will parade round happily squeaking and letting everyone see she has her squeaky toy. Sheena is a medium, large, active dog and so we are only accepting applications that has and will have the lifestyle that will be most beneficial to her needs, now and over the next 8+ years. More pictures and possible video's can be found on her page on the rescue website. You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the '3 Point Rule' Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3 month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating in accordance with dogfoodadvisor.com . There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! ALL dogs are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas, or other locations, countries to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian families must confirm with the border that they are able to cross and have the required vaccines, documentation and anything else needed to enter the US. Also it is important to know that Canadian Customs charge 15% taxes on the adoption when you return into Canada. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue for meet/greet/adopt
