About Sammy Bear

Sammy Bear is a purebred Newfoundland. He is so incredibly beautiful and is looking for his forever human/s who will love him unconditionally. He is a 3-year-old giant lovable teddy bear. There is no doubt, you will fall in love with him. He is a head turner, and we often get stopped on our walks, because people want to meet him. He loves people and enjoys the attention. He does very well in car rides, especially if he gets to go to the park. He loves to go on walks and preferably would like to find a human looking for a companion to take morning and evening strolls. Sammy Bear wants to be with his humans and does not enjoy being left alone. We have been working on having him stay in a covered crate for short period of times to make the running of errands possible; however, he still whines and drools excessively. He is doing much better than when we first got him - he was barking and scratching at the door - however it is clear that being left still provides him with some anxiety. He is very smart, and we believe that his fear of abandonment can be overcome with patience and love. Sammy Bear has a lot of love to give and is hoping to find his forever human. In the evenings, he loves to snuggle with his human on the couch and he is more than happy to climb in bed with you if you let him. He is a wonderful dog; however, he has a few requirements. Sammy Bear will only be adopted into a home where he can be an 'only dog.' No cats, no other dogs - he loves his humans and he does not want to share. He does not pay any mind to other dogs he meets on walks unless the other dog displays aggressive tendencies (growling, snarling, etc). Sammy Bear would do best in an adult only home; ideally, someone that works from home and enjoys exploring nature. He currently goes on a walk in the morning and at night to take care of business. Sammy Bear would love a yard; however, he would also do well in an apartment (as long as his human is committed to providing him with regular exercise). Please give this a lot of thought - where Sammy Bear might enjoy running around outside in the cold Chicago winter, it may not be as fun for you. One last note: Sammy Bear is beautiful, and there is no doubt, that for the right human, he will provide endless love. Please keep in mind that he will need someone that has experience with the breed is committed to spend some time with him on training. We highly recommend having Sammy Bear spend a day a week (or more) at doggie day care, so that he can be surrounded by other dogs and learned to interact with different temperaments. This will also help in alleviating his fear of abandonment, since you will be there each day to pick him up. Over time, he will learn that he will never be abandoned again. Also, he is a Newfoundland - there is A LOT of drool! Sammy Bear is in good health, he is up to date on all shots (including rabies), and taking Simparica Trio for heartworm/flea/tic prevention. Sammy Bear is currently being loved in his foster home. He will be neutered prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $800.
